How To Survive Covid-19 Lockdown

Just like more and more people I am currently in isolation (lockdown) due to Covid-19, and as this will become reality for more and more people I thought I would share with you some ideas of how not to loss your mind, or even string your kids up and suspend them from the ceiling.

Yep, this is going to be a challenging time for all of us mere mortals, so what can we do to maintain our sanity in this rapidly changing world?

These are some of my suggestions, feel free to add some of your constructive ideas in the comments section below.

  • Take time to meditate.
  • Write in your journal (Something you should all be doing anyway!)
  • Laugh a lot (Watch a comedy show online).
  • Paint or draw (We can all do it, even if it’s just doodles of stickmen etc)
  • Depending on your countries level of lockdown, try and go for a walk every day.
  • Exercise indoors (Put some music on and start moving).
  • Think positive thoughts.
  • Use the power of your imagination, travel to the other side of the galaxy maybe and see what’s there.
  • Learn some magic tricks.
  • Play cards
  • Play a different type of game than you normal do on your games console.
  • Learn to play an instrument
  • Clean your house.
  • Set some really big goals for 2021.
  • Network with others of like-mind online.
  • Watch some motivational youtube videos
  • Expand your knowledge of things that interest by reading, studying etc.

These are some of my ideas for saving your sanity during this pandemic. Like I said in a previous post, do not live in fear of this virus, because fear and selfishness will kill much faster than any virus ever will.

Keep your hearts open, and a strong sense of humour as we will need both of these as we traverse this future together.

Keep strong, safe and together we will thrive long into the future.

I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing.

Well, that’s what Darth Vader said in one of the Star Wars films.  Yes, I know it was just a film, but sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction.  We all lack faith from time to time, we lack faith in self, faith in each other, faith in our Governments, we lack faith in Corporations.

It could be argued that we are indeed at times a very faithless society, but actually we have a lot of faith, to be honest most of it is probably pointless and misplaced, but what else do we have?  When I talk about faith I don’t mean any of the above, and I don’t necessarily mean faith in Jesus, Buddha, or the Prophet Muhammad either.

Everything above can be and often is abused.  People lie, Governments lie, Corporations lie.  The teachings of the great teachers are often misconstrued and/or misused.  We know all this, but still we continue this hypnotic existence we call life.  We say we have no choice, we say that it is just the way it is.

I wonder who tells you this?  Is it the same people who want you to stay asleep?  Who benefits by your hypnotism, it certainly isn’t you, well not the real you.  Are you powerless, or maybe your just ignorant, a defeatist, a weak soul that lacks a backbone?

This world is full of hypnotized people who delude themselves that they are awake, the informed and well educated are often the most asleep, they refuse to see reality for what it is, they refuse to see the suffering because their hearts are as stone.  The poor are as deluded as the rich, they spend their days being consumed by mindless media, drinking or fucking away their self imposed misery.

People on Earth call themselves humans, but we are not humans, at least not true humans as we are nothing more than deluded thinking animals.  We are nowt more than beasts of the fields with weapons of mass destruction.  Even the beasts of the fields would turn away from us in shame, because in reality many of us are worse than animals.

All the great teachers came to tell us the same message, they all used different words, but the message was the same.

“Wake Up!  You are not the animals of the fields, wake up children, wake up.”

That was their message.  Did we listen?  No, we generally killed them.  People boast of the progress of humanity, people say our future is in space.  The idea excites me, but fills me with dread.  We as thinking animals have not dealt with our own inner-space, we are so focused on the external reality that we neglect the truth of the reality that we live in.

Seeing Reality For What It Is

One thing therapy has taught me, and is still teaching me is to see things as they actually are and not how I wish them to be.  We suffer because we refuse to see reality as it is, we suffer because we believe we are right.  If you look at things from a scientific point of view, we are all liars.  We believe what we hear, see, taste, smell and touch.  Why do we believe that our view point is the ultimate truth?

My perceptions are as valid as yours or anybody else’s, but that doesn’t make it truth.  I have always held strong views, I haven’t always defended them, but I have held them none the less.  It is only recently that I have started to really challenge the perceptions of my reality.  I really had to admit to myself that I didn’t know the truth of anything that I thought I once knew.

Seeing reality for the first time is a bit like Neo in the film ‘The Matrix’, when Neo gets to see the ‘real world’ for the first time his reaction is to vomit.  Seeing the truth for the first time is a bit like that, the shock can be a little sickening and overwhelming.

Nobody wants to see the truth, even those who claim they do, often fear the absolute truth.  The shattering of beliefs and reality can be devastating to the fragile mind.

Faith In Only One Thing

When others are probably losing faith, I am gaining faith with every passing day.  You may wonder if by faith I mean faith in ‘God’, then the answer is yes and no.  I believe in the existence of ‘God’, what ever that image conjures up for you.  My belief is that of a Gnostic over that of a traditional Christian, Buddhist or even Muslim.

I have faith in only what I can prove through my own experience, I have little use for book knowledge.  I have faith in the path that I walk, and in the connection I have and that I am building with ‘God’.  I don’t know that the path I am walking now is actually the path of truth, but for now it feels right.

My therapist asked me what my goals were concerning where I saw myself going with things.  I feel that the only goal for me is to find the truth, to see reality as it actually is and not how I wish it to be.  I have to be present, to be mindful to the best of my ability.

The sad thing is that I have noticed more and more just how asleep, how unaware people are.  The vast majority of humanity pay no attention, they are almost completely unmindful.

This reminds me of Diogenes.

“He lit a lamp in broad daylight and said, as he went about, “I am looking for a human.”” ~ Diogenes

He never found one.  He was seeking a true human, instead of a thinking animal.  I think he died disappointed.

I can see how the path of awareness can and most likely is a very lonely path to walk.  It is much easier and safer to fall back to sleep, and become once again a member of the herd.

There is safety in numbers, but the herd mentality stagnates and regresses in time.

That is not the future for me, I know that much.
